National Blood Donor Month

National Event Posted: Tuesday, January 4, 2022

Goodall-Witcher Healthcare joins Carter BloodCare in recognizing January as National Blood Donor Month, a time dedicated to honoring the generosity, selflessness and community involvement of volunteer blood donors, as well as encouraging new donors to join the mission to save lives.

Donating blood to help others is a resolution that’s easy to keep. It takes less than an hour to donate whole blood. Since whole blood can be donated every 56 days, that’s only one hour out of 1,344 hours. It’s time well-spent in saving lives throughout our Lone Star communities.

More than 50 years ago — on December 31, 1969 — the president of the United States signed a proclamation designating January as National Blood Donor Month (NBDM). The new monthly observance was meant to honor voluntary blood donors and to encourage more people to give blood at a time when more blood is needed.
