About the Service

Modified barium swallow studies help evaluate swallowing disorders and guide effective treatment. These studies allow speech therapists to:

  • Pinpoint the cause and type of swallowing difficulties
  • Create individualized speech-language pathology plans
  • Offer care locally, reducing the need to travel for testing

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation is also available, provided by a certified VitalStim® clinician, to support improved swallowing function.

LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment)is a specialized speech-language pathology service designed to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease strengthen their voice and improve communication skills. This service is provided by a certified LSVT clinician to ensure quality and consistency in care.

How did you discover it was cancer?

Reynold believed that he had laryngitis before discovering that it was actually cancer.

How did you end up at Goodall Witcher?

Reynold has always enjoyed Clifton and decided to visit Goodall Witcher Healthcare which made a lasting impression on him.

How did you two meet?

Speech-language pathologist, Angie Carter, first met Reynold when he attended a support group meeting.

How has technology advanced in 20 years?

Research and development, and effective communication have made improvements over time, such as a longer shelf life for prosthesis.

How long before you felt comfortable with the prosthesis?

Reynold immediately felt comfortable with his prothesis as he was ready to move forward with his life.

How long did it take to speak after surgery?

Reynold, like most patients, was able to speak immediately after his first prosthesis was placed.

How often does the prosthesis have to be replaced?

Prosthesis typically can be replaced at 6 months, but there are many variables and it depends on the patient.

What are the benefits of using a prosthesis?

A great benefit of using a prosthesis is being able to speak the first day without a learning curve.

What is a support group meeting like?

The support group allows people to share their common experiences, grab a bite to eat, and be a part of the community.

What is the regimen like after surgery?

After surgery you can expect to speak right away and only need to come in as needed and for routine replacement.

What is your process with a new patient?

The new patient process begins with pre-surgery counseling where wou will meet a support group member.
